sprayed protective coatings
Over the next 2 pages we will be comparing Concrete Coating ( protective coating) and waterproofing membranes.
For this comparison, we are using a water and solvent based concrete coating against advanced protective coating
Dimpled Membrane.

There are 12 separate areas that we will be used to compare a concrete coating and a waterproofing membrane.

The 12 Topics
protective coating materials
01. Special equipment requirements for membranes and a concrete coating (protective coating)
02. Safety equipment, waterproofing membranes and a concrete coating (protective coating)
03. Is a concrete coating (protective coating) or waterproofing membranes clean or messy?
04. Consistent protection from a concrete coating (protective coating) or waterproofing membrane
05. Is a (protective coating) concrete coating or waterproofing membrane weather dependant?
06. What are the curing times for a membrane and a concrete coating concrete coating (protective coating)?
07. Shadows, waterproofing membranes and a concrete coating (protective coating)
08. Waterproofing membranes, a concrete coating (protective coating) and air pockets
09. How does a concrete coating (protective coating) or membrane handle headwater pressure?
10. How well does a concrete coating (protective coating) or membrane bridge gaps or cracks?
11. Is a concrete coating (protective coating) or membrane environmentally friendly?
12. How long will a concrete coating (protective coating) or waterproofing membrane last

A protective coating isn't as cheap as first thought. The hidden costs sneak up on you. The application of a protective coating requires expensive pumps, hoses, and other equipment to apply them. In addition, the stickiness of the protective coating will render brushes and rollers useless and   A waterproofing membrane does not require expensive equipment to be installed. It does not need special transportation methods or licenses for transport. You just roll it on your foundation wall and fasten it using common tools such as a hammer, nails and an exacto knife.
they will have to be replaced per job. Most protective coating must also be D.O.T (Department of Transportation) certified for transport.

2. Safety Equipment for Waterproofing
protective coating materials

Because a water or solvent based concrete coating (protective coating) contains high amounts of V.O.C's, the proper safety equipment is essential. Without safety equipment, solvents in a   Waterproofing membranes are made out of a high-denisty plastic and do require goggles , hardhats and steeltoe boots. Other than these basic construstion tools, no other safety equipment is needed.
concrete coating (protective coating) may absorb into your skin causing headaches, memory loss and other medical problems. A typical low cost facemask does not completely protect the applicator from V.O.C. emissions.
